Science and research at Cardiff Cancer Research UK Centre

Scientist using a pipetteResearch into cancer imaging is set to become an important focus of the Cardiff Cancer Research UK Centre. Developing ways to more accurately pinpoint tumours in the body will help to improve the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of cancer patients.

The very earliest trials of new drugs for a wide range of cancers will be carried out in Cardiff through our Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre. The existing network of later stage clinical trials will also expand, offering even more patients in Wales the chance to take part.

The Centre will also act as a ‘hub’ for excellence in the training of research scientists and clinicians in Wales. This will ensure that the Cardiff remains at the forefront of cancer expertise well into the future.

Finally, staff at the Centre will lead efforts to engage the local communities in Cardiff and other parts of Wales. They will promote local research and trials, and raise awareness of the early signs of cancer and ways to reduce the risk of the disease.
